They use either Windows XP or Linux as their operating system and can run all the usual applications, except games. A palmtop or PDA usually does not have a keyboard (except the Blackberry), and is typically used either as an organiser, satnav or multimedia device. Some also combine the functions of a mobile phone. A PDA is pretty useless these days.
