my mom sort of wants to breed my two rabbits. the girl is a mini rex and the boy is an english angora. the girl is about a year old and the boy is about two. they both weigh about the same . . .is it safe to breed them? it wont hurt the girl when she gives birth? Is it safe to breed a mini rex girl with an english angora rabbit? If the female has not had a litter yet, then it is very risky for her to have her first litter now. Smaller breeds should be bred by about 6-8 months.
The female should be the larger rabbit when it comes to breeding. If the male is much bigger, the kits can be too big for her to pass which can lead to death of her and the kits or expensive vet bills. Since any angora breed is larger than an mini rex, there is a risk of the kits being too large.
There is really no good reason to produce mixed breeds. You cannot predict what the babies will look like. The only use would be for pets, and that is not a good reason to breed and risk the life of your rabbit.

If you really wanted to breed, then you should get good quality rabbits that fit the breed standard. Study the standard and try to breed better rabbits. Show the rabbits at ARBA sanctioned shows. I can guarantee you that there will be pet quality rabbits even from the best stock.|||Why would you want to breed?

Do you know that there are soo many rabbits that are in rescue groups and shelters just waiting for their forever homes.

I am a firm believer in adopting a needy pet and leaving breeding to experienced, knowledgeable and reputable breeders be it dog, ferret, rabbit, horse, cat...etc....

So, NO its not SAFE to breed a mini rex girl with an english angora rabbit. Is it safe to breed a mini rex girl with an english angora rabbit?I would not if I were you. First of all, what will you do with all the babies, IF she does have them, and IF they live? And why would you want to mix the breeds anyway? Would you mix a Weenie dog with a Bulldog? Then there is the "what if's". What if my Rex can't deliver such big babies? What if she is too old? (She should have been bred the first time around 6 months if she was going to be a breeder) What if she has a hard time delivering them? There are a thousand "what if's". You asked, and it seems most people are agreeing, "no". I breed rabbits and have for years. But I made sure I knew my rabbits inside and out, and every way around before I started. Do you even know how long it takes a rabbit to carry a litter? (28 to 32 days) Or when to put the nest box in? Or what to do if she has problems giving birth? Are you sure you are feeding her properly? If you are over feeding her at all it could lead to even more problems giving birth. But if you are under feeding her or if she doesn't have the nurtients she needs she may eat her babies. I wouldn't do it. If you want to see babies, I can send you plenty of pics. If you would like to see them in person, I will be glad to work with you to find a breeder in your area. They are not as cute as most people think when they are first born.|||no no no dont do it no no... ok the girl is a mini rex her babys are usaly smal. and the angora is a larger rabbit when born. it will kill your female any time u try to cross breed the female is ALWAYS the largest of the 2....Is it safe to breed a mini rex girl with an english angora rabbit? My parents used to breed Flemish Giants, but I don't know much about other breeds. I recommend you try to contact a local breeder and seek their advice. Generally, if the doe is larger than the buck, it's a go... but that's just a rule of thumb.
