I mean a mini dv is a small tape right, how would you edit a tape on computer? How would you edit a mini dv using final cut ?Take your miniDV camcorder, put it in "play" or "vtr" mode, not "camera" mode, turn it on, and connect a firewire cable from it to your Mac. (if your camcorder has a USB connector, this is only for still pictures and will not work for transferring video.) Next, start up Final Cut Pro (FCP), and select File>Log and Capture. The log and capture window will open, and you should see a small "VTR OK" beneath the play/stop/ff/rew buttons in the log and capture window. If you see "not threaded" or "no communication", check your connector cable, and make sure the tape is in the camcorder and the camcorder is in playback mode.
You capture clips from the tape by first naming the clip in the description box (not the "name" box), playing the tape using the playback buttons on the camcorder or in the log and capture window. (you can also use the keyboard "j" "k" and "L" buttons - reverse, stop, play to move through the tape.) when you get to the part you want to capture, play the tape and click the Capture "NOW" button. A new window will pop up saying "Now capturing press 'esc' to stop" . When you get to the end of the clip you want to capture, hit the escape (esc) key in the upper left corner of your keyboard. The captured clip should now appear in your browser window, meaning you can use it in your edit project. (summary: 4 steps - 1. Name the clip, 2. Play the clip, 3. Capture "NOW", and 4. press "esc")
Check out the webpages below for a basic Final Cut Pro walkthrough, if you like. I hope this helps. How would you edit a mini dv using final cut ?You import it into Final cut via a firewire connection and then edit on the time line. How would you edit a mini dv using final cut ?Hello,

First of all, a MiniDV tape by itself cannot be inserted into the computer as currently there is no device for such use. What you need is either a MiniDV Camcorder with IEEE-1394 (Or also known as FIREWIRE, i-LINK, DV or MACRODV).

Next your PC need to have the same connector. You might need to get a PCI Card that provide you with such a port. But since you will be doing your editing with Final Cut (Pro), I could safely assume that you will be using an Apple Macintosh. Most Newer Mac came with Firewire Port as a standard port.

Then your can capture your video into your Mac and edit it using Final Cut Pro.

Best Regards.|||You can play it with video camera or DV player recorder, provided that those machines are connected to computer capture card using firewire cable. Computer is automatically respond to start capturing video clip whenever player or camera is ON
