I went to buy a 2006 Mini Cooper tonight and was told that the price on the MSRP sticker is the only price and Mini dealers dont mark down. That they sell about 60 a month so they dont haggle. From what i have found online, their invoice is around $22500. They wont budge on $25700 sticker, $28200 out the door. But they will throw in floor mats. Woo Hoo Any Mini buying experience will be appreciated:)How do i get the Mini Cooper dealer to sell me a car closer to the invoice than the msrp?Unless that is corporate policy, make an offer, and if they refuse, leave your phone number and wait for a call. If that does not happen, go to another dealer and try again.|||This is the season for a deal. The dealers are hungry this month and next. Hold your ground . The " I sold 60 this month " stuff is crap. Can you imagine if every salesman at every dealership sold 60 a month? There wouldn't be any other cars on the road. Its a sales tactic. Make you feel like if you dont buy it someone else will.
Car sales are down. Call the business manager of the dealership you are dealing with and tell him you are offering 22,500. (or 23,500 or whatever you want to pay) Tell him you are not flexible, ( dont be) and if he wishes to close a deal to call you. Tell him you will shop around for other cars in the meantime. So until you find someone to take your money, the offer remains open.

It is true that if they think another kid will walk in right behind you and buy the car for 25,700 then thats what they'll do, but in sales there are mountains and there are valleys. Around the middle of the month the slaesman will start worrying about bills due on the first of the month. The sales Manager will worry about making end of month quota's, and the business manager better have a certain $ amount of paper written or he's back at the cash wicket at Bank of America.

Patience is a virtue. Negotiation is game. Don't play. Hold your money out, they will come.

Never let them know you are in love with their product. It will cost you more money. How do i get the Mini Cooper dealer to sell me a car closer to the invoice than the msrp?First off, an 06 has already depreciated and the dealer wants to move them, regardless of that they say. When you buy at invoice the dealer still makes money on the holdback (usually 3.5% of invoice) that he doesn't share with the salesman. Tell them you are going to let them finance the vehicle. Holdback combined with reserve (profit made on marking interest up) is enough for any dealer to move distressed inventory. Allow them to make 1 or 2 points on the interest, then simply pay the loan off with your own lender. There is no expense in you doing this if they don't have a pre-paid interest charge (it will show on the contract). Make sure the contract is a simple interest loan. This way the dealer thinks he's made enough profit, but just gets charged back the reserve. Don't buy service contracts, credit insurance or Gap insurance.

You win this way, except for the fact that the 06 isn't even worth invoice!

Best bet is a 1 year old or pre-owned 06. Do the research for find loan value out, have a professional check for paint work and your fine.

PS.. last day of the month is a great time to buy due to internal bonuses paid to the sales department. Nationally 06 mini coupes avg 19,700 and S coupes avg $22,000 wholesale.

Good Luck!|||Talk to a fleet manager instead of a sales person. The fleet manager doesn't care about the commission because he gets bonuses for the number of cars sold as opposed to commision bonus that sales people get.

The 2006 prices should go down because the 2007's are out, however the Cooper is a pretty popular car so it may be difficult to haggle. The biggest thing when looking for a car is to buy it at your own terms rather than the dealers. Try looking at other areas or even another county, you may save a couple thousand just for driving an hour or two away. How do i get the Mini Cooper dealer to sell me a car closer to the invoice than the msrp?i would go to one dealer and get a qoute from them
then go to another dealer (if not available call one )
and see if they can give you a better price

also if they offer you a extended warranty you can pass on that as your vehicle already has a new car warranty and you do not need to have it until your expires|||Mini dealers do not have to bargain, the demand is above the supply in some areas. If you are willing to wait til the '07 redesign hits the dealership, they may be willing to bargain on any left over '06's. So either buck up, bite the bullet and pay sticker, or give them a deep drop moon and bide your time.|||I go the same story about they don't haggle over price, and when there was a waiting list to get them, that was probably true. And I understand that the "go to another dealership" thing doesn't work because there are so few mini dealers. For me, I would have had to go 7 hours to get to the next one!

For what it's worth, the lot I was on had about 35 '06 mini's in stock and were waiting on the 07's to come in. I was, after three trips to the dealer and about 8 hours of standing, walking, and talking on the lot, able to get $1000 off the MSRP price on an 06 Cooper. (and tinting and floor mats were tossed in)

If you REALLY want a mini, there isn't a ton of wiggle room in my experience.
