They're cheap ($20 or so), easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable. How do i connect my sony mini dv camera to the computer?Let me add some more light to what our friend up here /\ recommends. If you have a desktop, you need a 4 pin to 6 pin Fire wire cable (little in one end and big in the other) or if you have a laptop (recent production) a 4 pin to 4 pin (little at both ends). When you have all you need follow this steps:
1- Turn on your camcorder and set to "play".
2- Connect the Firewire cable to camcorder.
3- Connect to computer and select your best option from menu.

If you use a card adapter for Laptop the cable you need is the 4pin to 6pin, if the laptop has Firewire is the 4pin to 4 pin.
Good luck and have fun.How do i connect my sony mini dv camera to the computer? If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder鈥?
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.
